Whistlestop visit to Falmouth & Truro

On a very unusual day off where it wasn't scheduled to rain, I decided to make the journey to Falmouth from Cardiff by train, realising I could get there with just one change I left on the 08:00 train from Cardiff towards Penzance alighting a few stops before at Truro.

I boarded and we left on time, settled down with my tablet with some Spotify and Netflix (not at the same time) for the 231-mile journey to Falmouth,

Arriving at Penryn at 13:30, the first thing on my mind was a proper Cornish Pasty from Pips Pasties in Penryn, whilst I was at University in Falmouth I used to enjoy their vegetable pasties on a weekly and sometimes daily basis, having phoned up asking them to keep one behind from me they were surprised at how far I had come with the pasty being the first thing on my mind! I then headed down to Penryn Bridge to sit on the harbour and enjoy my pasty, the weather proving unseasonably warm, it is true that whilst at University in Falmouth / Penryn I was never cold (Well besides that time where my friend made me go in the sea with no wetsuit in October!)

Onward from Penryn I boarded the Cornwall by Kernow U1 bus to Falmouth town, after perusing some shops in Falmouth including a few new ones I picked up my usual Cornish Sea salt as well as a few new things, I then made my way up Jacobs Ladder to the top of Falmouth

I was more tired than I thought getting up those stairs! There are tons of them, I swear there never used to be that many!

Coming up here gives a great vantage point for viewing Falmouth's harbour towards St Mawes, after walking past my old uni house giving it a wave as I walked past I decided to have a sit on the grass which was surprisingly dry and a relax with this view here listening to a bit of music and enjoying the fresh Cornish sea air

A beautiful shot in my opinion catching the autumnal sun edging towards sunset over Flushing and St Mawes with the Church of King Charles in full view

A panorama from a bit further back too showing the harbour, and also the castle and the UFO shaped object on the right that is Ships and Castles leisure centre

Giving that it was getting later and I had done a bit more walking around I decided to head down towards the bus stop, not before stopping at the Prince of Wales pier opposite where I used to work. Now that I’m living in Wales it would be rude not to, it's amazing how many turns life takes that you aren't expecting, there is a pub opposite called the Prince of Wales too that I will be sure to visit next time I’m about Falmouth probably for a bit longer than a few hours next time!

The weather here trying to put on a good show through the clouds and the latening hour.

Heading back Cardiff bound I decided to get the Cornwall by Kernow bus U1A which now goes all the way to Newquay jumping off at Truro myself to head through town towards the train station, after passing through my old workplace to grab a couple of drinks and say hello which is nice to still be remembered even though I left more than 4 years ago (Gosh it has been that long since I was at Uni!) making the crucial stop at Habaneros Burrito bar which is a MUST for anyone visiting this part of Cornwall (there’s one in Truro and Falmouth) I love spice so would recommend the Chilli Beef with pan fried chorizo and Scorpion sauce, after bagging this with a Jarritos Mexican cola I headed to the train station with the sun setting I took this photo whilst crossing the bridge for trains towards London and South Wales

Back for the return 230 mile journey to Cardiff Central via Weston Super Mare and Bristol Temple Meads tired having enjoyed blowing the cobwebs off in a sudden absolutely mad impulse for a quick getaway. Returning on a GWR Castle again with my tablet watching Britbox and my crucial companion, my Habaneros Burrito!
